CPPC jumped at the opportunity to take over the Studebaker Club’s slot in Clackamette Park when it became available last year, but that gave the Car Show Committee only five months – instead of the usual 12 – to plan the event.
They did it well. CPPC is known among enthusiasts for our friendly attitude and well-planned shows, and the committee came through one more time. They were hoping for better attendance than the old Hot Dog-Ust Day was getting at the Clackamas Community College location, but they couldn’t help but be surprised when 223 cars showed up for the brand-new event. The gates opened a half-hour early when the line-up reached McDonalds on Hwy 99, and the rush wasn’t over until 10:00AM.
Raffle ticket sales were brisk, and drawings went on literally all day.
Once again, we’ll be donating $6,000 to Clackamas Community College for Auto Tech scholarships, and $750 to the CCC track team, who help us park cars each year.
Best of Show went to a 1956 DeSoto Firedome belonging to Mike & Janet Breesee from Happy Valley.
People’s Choice was Nancie Wolfer’s 1960 Dodge Phoenix.
The Road Angels, from Vancouver, took home the Club Participation Award.
Creating scholarships for Auto Technology Students
at Clackamas Community College
Traditionally, CPPC offers a share of proceeds from their car show to a scholarship fund at Clackamas Community College. It's a way to encourage younger people in the hobby. Very practically, it's a way to keep technicians in the pipeline so we have somebody to work on our cars!
Community response has always been outstanding. Some people and businesses have been adding a little to their raffle donations; others have been writing substantial checks directly to the CPPC Scholarship Fund at Clackamas Community College. Planners needed to limit the number of trophies, because we wouldn't have time to give them all away. We looked close at raffles, and realized we'd need to draw a ticket every all day to get through the bounty that had been donated. Mike Bade's big poster that lists all of the donors gets a little bigger every year. And of course, year after year CPPC member show up and lend their expertise to create the show. CPPC has the reputation of putting on well-organized and friendly car shows, and, at a brand-new date and a brand-new location, we managed to do it again.
